Adam Azim has set his sights on competing for a world title after being recognized as the British Boxing Writers’ Young Fighter of the Year at the British Boxing Board of Control Awards on Sunday.
In 2024, Azim achieved knockout victories against Enock Poulsen and Ohara Davies. He continued his winning streak in February by defeating Sergey Lipinets, securing the IBO light-welterweight title and improving his record to 13 wins and no losses.
At 22 years old, Azim has become known as one of the most exciting young boxers in Britain, joining a prestigious group of past winners of this award.
Azim told Sky Sports that he aims to surpass his previous performances and is ready to seize a world title opportunity this year if it arises.
He believes audiences have only seen a portion of his full potential, estimating it to be around 40 to 50 percent, and suggests that his 100 percent capability will be truly impressive.
Daniel Dubois was named Boxer of the Year after a successful 2024. He stopped Filip Hrgovic in June and then achieved a fifth-round knockout victory over Anthony Joshua in September, becoming the IBF heavyweight world champion.
Dubois was scheduled to defend his title against Joseph Parker in Saudi Arabia last month but had to withdraw due to illness during fight week.
The BBBofC Contest of the Year award was given to Frazer Clarke and Fabio Wardley for their draw at The O2 in March 2024.
Wardley won the rematch in October with a first-round knockout, retaining his British and Commonwealth titles.
Mikaela Mayer was named Overseas Boxer of the Year after winning against Sandy Ryan in New York in September to become WBO welterweight champion, following a previous defeat to Natasha Jonas.
Mayer is set to have a rematch with Ryan in Las Vegas on March 30. The winner could potentially face Lauren Price, who recently unified welterweight world titles after defeating Jonas.
