Cricket fans are eagerly anticipating the start of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, commencing on March 22nd. However, Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions, might encounter a significant setback as their key fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, is expected to be unavailable for the initial matches.
Bumrah, aged 31, is currently in recovery from a lower back injury sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in January. Reports suggest that as a precautionary measure, he is likely to miss the first two to three games for Mumbai Indians.
Sources indicate that while Bumrah’s medical reports are positive and he has resumed bowling, his return to high-intensity cricket is realistically expected around the beginning of April. The medical team is gradually increasing his workload, and he will only be cleared once he can bowl at full intensity without any discomfort.
The BCCI and National Cricket Academy (NCA) management are closely monitoring the fitness of both Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, especially considering the England tour following the IPL 2025. Managing their workload during the IPL will be crucial to ensure their fitness for longer formats of the game and prevent any breakdowns during important matches.
