A Brazilian footballer endured a terrifying moment when he collided head-first with a wall beside the field after falling while contesting a ball with an opponent.
Melkzedeck de Sousa Fernandes, a defender, narrowly avoided a fatal outcome after crashing face-first into the concrete structure following a tackle near the rival team’s penalty area.

The game was halted as players quickly came to his aid, fearing a severe injury and potential worsening of his condition.
Melk, as he is commonly known, was carried off the field on a stretcher and transported to a hospital via ambulance.
His club, Atletico Piauiense, later announced that the 20-year-old had received stitches for a facial wound, but after conducting tests, medical professionals found no indications of serious, lasting effects.
The incident occurred during the team’s away match against Parnahyba Sport Club in Brazil’s Serie D league.
Video footage of the frightening event showed Melk, wearing jersey number 22, raising his right hand to his head as he lay in a semi-conscious state on the ground after the violent impact.
Opponents, including the defender who had won the ball from him as he approached the opposing team’s goal, joined in the urgent calls for an ambulance. The ambulance arrived promptly onto the field to take the injured player away on a stretcher.
Melk was visibly conscious but disoriented as he was placed in the ambulance, with blood visible from a head wound.
Atletico Piauiense, who won the match 3-1, released a statement on social media stating: “Melk was admitted to Dirceu Arcoverde Hospital where he received treatment and stitches.
“He is conscious and in stable condition.
“We are continuing to monitor his progress and providing him with all necessary support.”
Fans and supporters expressed their well-wishes and support for the player.
Another person commented, “That wall needs to be removed from its current location.”
In a tragic event in 2015, an Argentinian footballer died after hitting a wall beside the pitch during a match.
Following the death of Emanuel Ortega, the Argentinian Football Association began requiring that walls near pitches be covered with protective cushioning.
The 21-year-old footballer, playing for fourth-tier team San Martin de Burzaco in Jujuy, northwest Argentina, passed away in May 2015 after spending 11 days in hospital.
He had been in a medically induced coma after undergoing surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.
The wall he collided with separated the field from the spectator stands. He struck the back of his head as he lost balance and fell after being tackled by an opposing player, who was the first to react and call for help for the unconscious footballer.
