Boxing promoter Ben Shalom is proposing a fight between Hamzah Sheeraz and Callum Simpson.
Sheeraz recently fought Carlos Adames for the WBC middleweight title, in a bout that ended in a draw. Some observers felt Sheeraz was close to losing his undefeated record in that fight.
Sheeraz, who is a tall middleweight, might move up to a higher weight class. Shalom, who promotes Simpson, believes Sheeraz should consider fighting Simpson, the British super-middleweight champion.
Shalom told Sky Sports that if Sheeraz moves up in weight, a fight with Simpson is the logical next step. He believes boxing fans would want to see this matchup.
Shalom added that Simpson and Sheeraz are currently the biggest names in British super-middleweight boxing. He acknowledged Sheeraz’s recent performance might not have been his best and perhaps he isn’t yet at the highest level.
Shalom stated, “Let’s find out who the best boxer in Britain is in a massive showdown.” He believes Sheeraz would be confident about beating Simpson, given his reputation as a rising star. Shalom is challenging Sheeraz to prove his status by facing and defeating Simpson, who he considers the best in Britain.
Simpson is expected to fight next at Oakwell Stadium in Barnsley, his hometown. Shalom thinks a fight against Hamzah Sheeraz would be ideal for this event, as it’s the kind of high-profile match Sheeraz should be aiming for.
Shalom emphasized that Sheeraz considers himself to be world-class, so fighting the British champion is a necessary step. He highlighted Simpson’s success and popularity, both in and out of the ring, noting his large fanbase and growing reputation.
Shalom concluded by saying he sees no reason why a Simpson versus Sheeraz fight shouldn’t happen eventually.
