Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn met again at a second press conference to promote their highly anticipated fight, maintaining a significant distance from each other.
Security personnel were present to ensure there was no repeat of the disorderly scenes from their initial press conference earlier in the week.
The sons of legendary British boxing rivals Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn, Eubank Jr and Conor Benn are scheduled to fight at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, April 26th. They held the second press conference for their promotional tour at the London venue on Thursday.
During this press conference, Eubank was jokingly scanned with a mock ‘egg detector,’ referencing his action of throwing an egg at Benn during the launch event on Tuesday.
That egg-throwing incident caused a chaotic situation, with security separating the fighters and Conor’s father grabbing Eubank Jr.
Eubank addressed Nigel Benn, saying, ‘You put your hand on my neck. I’ll let it slide this time. But if you touch me again, you won’t get your hand back.’
Conor Benn responded sharply, ‘Shut your mouth. This whole thing is getting on my nerves. I can’t wait to smash your head in.’
Eubank Jr replied, ‘Mission accomplished. I also can’t wait, my friend.’
Nigel Benn adopted a calmer tone, apologizing for the press conference scuffle. ‘I understand, and I apologize for what happened,’ he stated. ‘He’s provoked us [before the April 26th fight]. I know what’s coming.’
He added, ‘I know what my son is capable of. He is actually a much better fighter than I ever was. I could never box like Conor. When Conor connects, it could be in the first or second round. I don’t think it will go beyond four rounds.’
Eubank Jr and Benn were originally set to fight in 2022, but the fight was cancelled the week of the event after news broke that Conor Benn had failed two drug tests.
Benn’s provisional suspension was lifted in November, allowing him to continue his rivalry with Eubank Jr. Benn told Sky Sports that he would reapply for his license with the British Boxing Board of Control for this fight.
The cancelled fight from 2022 remains a point of contention between them.
Eubank, who frequently interrupted Eddie Hearn, Benn’s promoter, during Thursday’s press conference, announced, ‘From my earnings for this fight, I will donate £50,000 to the fighters on the undercard [of the cancelled 2022 fight] to divide among them to compensate for some of their losses.’
‘I’m not seeking praise for this. I hope Eddie and Conor will also contribute £50,000 each.’
Eubank Jr commented on the egg incident, ‘I believe many boundaries have been crossed. I think [the egg incident] was mild. I think it was deserved. He deserved the humiliation.’
‘I come unarmed today. I’ve been thoroughly searched multiple times,’ he added. ‘This is a real fight. This will be like the first fight between my father and Nigel Benn. It’s going to be special.’
