Cruz Hewitt, the 16-year-old son of two-time Grand Slam champion Lleyton Hewitt, has achieved a significant milestone in his burgeoning tennis career. Ranked 1176th in the world, the young Australian player has reached his first-ever final in an ITF tournament in Launceston, Australia.
In a compelling semi-final match lasting 2 hours and 10 minutes, Hewitt Jr. demonstrated his tenacity and skill, defeating South Korean player Sanhui Shin, who is ranked 673rd globally. The scores were 7-6(1), 1-6, 6-3.
This victory marks a breakthrough for Hewitt, who will now compete for the title against fellow Australian Jason Kubler, currently ranked 516th in the world rankings.
Earlier this year, in January, Cruz Hewitt received a wild card entry into the Australian Open qualifying rounds, providing him with valuable experience at a major tournament, although he was defeated in the first qualifying round by Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia.
