Former world No. 20 and current coach Dmitry Tursunov shared his expectations for the match between Russian players Daria Kasatkina and Liudmila Samsonova in the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, USA.
‘It could be an interesting match, but only if Liudmila plays to her potential. Logically, Samsonova’s game is a good match-up for Daria Kasatkina, but only if Liudmila is confident and if the conditions allow her to play her best tennis, or at least close to her best. If there is wind or discomfort, Dasha could simply wear down Liudmila by withstanding the pressure of powerful shots and serves. If I’m not mistaken, Liudmila historically doesn’t play very well against Russians, or maybe I made that up. In any case, here I would give a slight preference to Dasha. Especially if it’s windy,’ Tursunov wrote in his Telegram channel.
