In an interview with The Athletic, Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina shared her perspective on United States President Donald Trump.
Svitolina noted a feeling of increased unity among Ukrainians due to a perceived lack of support from the US in recent weeks.
“I’ve noticed that we’ve become more united now because we feel a lack of support from the US in recent weeks,” she stated.
She emphasized the need for Ukrainians to support each other for their country’s sake, especially in light of Trump’s early decisions. “Therefore, we must unite and support each other for the sake of our beloved country. Trump has only just begun his term, but he has already made a number of decisions that have negatively affected Ukrainians,” Svitolina explained.
The tennis star expressed sympathy for those affected by these policies. “I sincerely feel sorry for all the innocent people affected by this,” she added.
This statement comes after a meeting in Washington where President Trump hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Reports indicate their discussion became contentious, leading to the US President ending further communication.
