Pellegrino and Mastantuono bond over legendary Fiorentina icon Batistuta

Mateo Pellegrino has revealed he has already formed a connection with his new Fiorentina teammate Franco Mastantuono. Both players share the ambition of following in the footsteps of the legendary Gabriel Batistuta.

Pellegrino recently completed his transfer from Parma, reportedly for a base fee of €24.5 million, potentially increasing with add-ons. The striker, who turns 25 in October, initially joined Serie A from Velez Sarsfield in February 2025. His time with Parma saw his value significantly increase, contributing 15 goals and two assists in 52 competitive matches.

Pellegrino 'very proud' to join Fiorentina

"I am very happy to join this club; it makes me extremely proud," Pellegrino stated on Fiorentina's official website. "I'm eager to start and give my best to support the team. The Viola Park facilities are remarkable; I've never seen so much advanced equipment, and I can't wait to begin."

This season, Florence is seeing a distinct Argentine presence with Mastantuono also joining on loan from Real Madrid.

"I've already spoken with Franco. He reached out to me as soon as he heard the rumors about my potential move here," Pellegrino shared. "Fiorentina has a rich history with many Argentine players, and naturally, Gabriel Batistuta, the legendary 'Batigol', comes to mind. We'll see if we can achieve even a fraction of what he accomplished here."

The legacy of Batistuta played a significant role in Pellegrino's decision to choose Fiorentina as his next club.

"It's a club with immense history, having been a stepping stone for many great players. When Fiorentina expresses interest, it naturally brings joy, which is why I'm here," he added. "My goal is to score even more goals and continuously improve both as a person and a player. I want to help Fiorentina reach its highest potential."

Pellegrino will be wearing the Number 32 jersey for the Viola, a number he notes was on his very first shirt during his professional debut.
