India advanced to the ICC Champions Trophy final, but fans missed seeing Virat Kohli’s century. Kohli, close to his 52nd century, was out while attempting a big hit off Adam Zampa’s bowling. As he returned to the dressing room, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir seemed to express his disappointment about the shot selection.
Social media videos show Gambhir and Kohli in an animated discussion. Gambhir appeared to question the need for such a shot at that point in the game.
Gambhir was seemingly heard saying to Kohli upon his return to the dressing room, ‘KL Rahul was already hitting well’.
However, in the later press conference, Gambhir praised Virat, acknowledging his consistent dominance in the 50-over format for India.
Gambhir stated that Kohli is a phenomenal one-day cricketer, adept at planning his innings whether batting first or chasing, and adapting quickly to conditions. He highlighted Kohli’s experience and high quality as key to his record in ODI cricket and hoped for his continued success.
Gambhir hopes Virat will maintain his form in the Champions Trophy as India prepares for the final against the winner of the New Zealand vs South Africa semi-final on Sunday.
