Gautam Gambhir secured his first victory as the head coach of the Indian cricket team when they triumphed over New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy final. Gambhir, who stepped in to fill the significant gap left by Rahul Dravid after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory, faced considerable criticism regarding certain outcomes, particularly in Test cricket. However, he silenced his critics by leading India to their second Champions Trophy title.

Amidst the celebrations at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, a memorable moment occurred between Gambhir and former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Sidhu, renowned for his eloquent speeches and poetry, especially during commentary, witnessed Gambhir taking on the role of a poet in his presence. The outcome was truly captivating.

“Learn the art of crushing the hood…”, Gambhir started, and Sidhu completed it with, “…jungles are not abandoned out of fear of snakes.”

Sidhu shared the moment online, saying, “The Shayari that he asked me to narrate has a lot to say … he @GautamGambhir is here to stay … wish him and the Indian cricket team the very best …. You made India proud brother.”

Sidhu also playfully challenged Gambhir to perform Bhangra, but the India head coach humorously declined. Although Gambhir struck a Bhangra pose later, he refrained from dancing despite Sidhu’s repeated encouragement.

Following the match, India captain Rohit Sharma praised Gambhir, acknowledging his support for Rohit’s desired approach to the game and the mindset he aimed to instill in the team.

Rohit Sharma commented, “It (attacking game) is not natural to me but it is something I really wanted to do. When you are trying to do something different, you need the backing of the team and the management, and they were right through with me. In the ODI World Cup as well with Rahul bhai, this is what I spoke to him and he was very much okay with it, and now Gauti bhai as well. It’s all about getting the backing of the team and the management. It’s something I really wanted to do. I have played all these years in a different style, but I wanted to try and do something different, try and see if we can play differently and get the results that we were looking for.”
