World No. 2 Iga Swiatek has acknowledged her keen interest in the rising career of Joao Fonseca.
“I think he’s an incredible player,” Swiatek stated. “Since Rafael Nadal stepped away, I haven’t watched many men’s matches. While I’ve always followed Carlos Alcaraz, it’s been challenging to find other players whose style captivated me.”
“Recently, I started watching Joao’s matches and I’m really impressed with his game and his court movement. He makes very smart decisions on the court, and I will definitely be following his progress. He might actually be the reason I start watching more men’s tour matches.”
“He’s amazing and has been performing exceptionally well. There’s a lot of pressure on him right now, so I hope Brazilian fans will be patient with him because he is still very young and has plenty of time to develop. Step by step, he has the potential to become a great player, but patience is key,” the Polish star commented during a press conference.
