Cricket fans witnessed a thrilling rematch of classic rivalry in Vadodara. A packed stadium watched Sachin Tendulkar deliver a vintage performance for India Masters, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a powerful Australian Masters team. Shane Watson and Ben Dunk’s explosive batting led Australia to their first victory in the International Masters League season.

Tendulkar’s incredible innings of 64 runs off just 33 balls evoked memories of his famous Desert Storm innings. He launched a fearless attack on the Australian bowlers, reaching his half-century in only 27 balls. His innings reminded everyone why he is still so beloved in Indian cricket.

Even though India Masters lost wickets at the other end, Tendulkar continued his fight single-handedly. He hit four sixes and seven fours, taking India Masters to 100/3 in the middle overs. The crowd was stunned when Xavier Doherty caught Tendulkar off Daniel Christian’s bowling. Following Tendulkar’s dismissal, Yusuf Pathan contributed a quick 25 runs from 15 balls, briefly raising hopes for an India Masters victory. They had been aiming for their fourth consecutive win and had already qualified for the knockout stage.

However, the required run rate kept increasing, and the remaining batsmen faced a difficult task. India Masters ultimately fell short by 95 runs, suffering their first defeat in the tournament. For Australia, Xavier Doherty was the standout bowler, taking 5 wickets for 25 runs, the first five-wicket haul of the competition.

Earlier in the match, Ben Dunk and Shane Watson put on a spectacular, unbeaten 236-run partnership for the second wicket, setting a new T20 record for second-wicket partnerships. This massive score propelled Australia Masters to 269/1. Watson, dropped early in his innings, made India Masters regret their mistake by scoring a century, his second of the tournament. Dunk soon followed with his own century, adding to India’s woes.

The match began with Shaun Marsh hitting three consecutive boundaries off Vinay Kumar before Watson was dropped. The Australian pair capitalized on the fielding restrictions, scoring quickly in the initial overs. Rahul Sharma slowed down the scoring rate with his leg spin. Pawan Negi then took the first wicket for India Masters, dismissing Marsh for 22 runs. Unfortunately for India, this was the only highlight in an otherwise tough day.

Ben Dunk, coming in at number 3, immediately attacked, hitting a six. He and Watson continued to dominate the Indian bowlers. Dunk reached his half-century in just 23 balls, even outscoring Watson for a period. Watson, after initially playing a supporting role, then accelerated, reaching his fifty off 29 balls with consecutive sixes.

Reminiscent of their prime years, Watson and Dunk focused on boundaries. Their partnership reached over a hundred runs in just eight overs. Both batsmen looked in excellent form, showing no signs of age. Watson completed his century in 47 balls, and Dunk soon overtook him, reaching his own century in just 43 balls, the fastest in the tournament. Watson ended his innings with 110 not out from 52 balls, including 12 fours and seven sixes, while Dunk scored a brutal 132 not out from 53 balls, with 12 fours and 10 sixes.

Adding to the excitement, this match occurred just a day after the current Indian team defeated Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy semi-final in Dubai. This coincidence made the Masters clash even more significant, highlighting the enduring rivalry between these two cricketing nations.
