Following recent cross-border hostilities involving missile and drone attacks, India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire across land, air, and sea. This period of heightened tension had led to the provisional suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season for one week, with players, both Indian and international, returning home. Notably, the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final between Australia and South Africa is scheduled to begin on June 11.
Resuming the IPL immediately after the one-week suspension would create scheduling conflicts. An ODI series between West Indies and England starts on May 29, while the IPL final was originally planned for May 25.
The BCCI also has the option to postpone the remainder of IPL 2025 to a later date in the year.
