Former world No. 1 in doubles, Rennae Stubbs, has shared her thoughts on the recent difficulties experienced by 24-time Grand Slam champion, Serbian Novak Djokovic. At the tournament in Doha, Qatar, he was defeated in the first round by Italian player Matteo Berrettini.
Subsequently, it was revealed that Djokovic had sustained an injury. He was observed limping at the airport upon his departure from Qatar.
Stubbs commented, “Berrettini played the match of his life there. His forehand was outstanding.”
She continued, “I know Djokovic had issues with his leg at the start of the year in Australia. He’s had recurring injuries in recent years, whether it’s his knee or leg. Novak has always managed to come back and regain his form. In that aspect, he’s probably been better than any tennis player. However, the fact that he is not winning now is becoming a concern.”
Stubbs concluded, “Just imagine the situation, you are out of play for a while, and then you return to the court, but you are older. You have to work even harder to get back in shape, you become more nervous, and your body gets weaker. Overall, I see him facing increasing problems.”
