World No. 14 Jack Draper has shared the mindset that propelled him to victory against Carlos Alcaraz at Indian Wells.
“Before the match, I had doubts. At this level, I’m always afraid of losing to my opponent, and that gives me an edge because I know how well they play. But I also believe in myself. At the top level, self-belief is crucial, especially when facing the best players. I’m sure many players step onto the court already feeling defeated against the top guys.”
“I watched Carlos play all week and knew he was playing incredibly, but I believed I could challenge him. Early in the match, I noticed he was slightly unfocused and making more errors than usual. It was surprising. I take Carlos being nervous as a compliment to my game,” Draper stated in the press conference.
