Indian wicket-keeper batsman KL Rahul solidified his position as a finisher in the ODI format with his consistent performances during the Champions Trophy. His reliable batting was crucial as India won the Champions Trophy without losing a single match.
Initially known as an opening batsman, Rahul successfully competed with Rishabh Pant for the wicket-keeper spot. His performance justified the team management’s decision to support him.
In a post-final interview with Sanjana Ganesan, Jasprit Bumrah’s wife, Rahul was asked about the ‘fun’ aspect of wicket-keeping in the Champions Trophy, especially when facing India’s spin attack featuring Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel.
Rahul jokingly responded to Sanjana, stating that it was “Not fun, Sanjana!” and explained the physical demands of squatting “200-250 times” while keeping to the spinners.
Despite the physical challenges, Rahul expressed immense satisfaction in winning the Champions Trophy with the Indian team.
“There’s no greater feeling than this,” Rahul stated, emphasizing his focus on winning titles. He acknowledged the opportunities to contribute to team victories and expressed gratitude for the team’s success, highlighting the importance of humility, dedication, and performance in achieving such moments.
