Lauren Price has issued a warning to whoever emerges victorious from the upcoming Mikaela Mayer versus Sandy Ryan world title bout.
Price, the newly unified welterweight world champion, has her sights set on facing the Mayer-Ryan winner for the undisputed welterweight crown. Speaking to Sky Sports News, she confidently declared, “I’ve still got more gears to go.”
“There’s so much more you’ll see from me, and I truly believe I am the best at 147lbs,” Price asserted.
Price’s dominant performance against Natasha Jonas at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday, where she unified the WBA, WBC, and IBF welterweight titles, solidified her position at the top.
Reflecting on her victory, the Olympic gold medalist from the Tokyo Games stated, “I think my speed was the biggest factor. I was drawing Tasha onto my punches. I even surprised myself. I fought more aggressively and felt stronger.”
She added, “I was effective with my counter-punches and overall, I’m very pleased with my performance.”
Upon returning to Wales this week, Price received a hero’s welcome. “It’s been unbelievable, reminiscent of the Olympics,” she shared. “Coming home to crowds of people, including children – I even found myself signing kids’ Crocs!”
“The support has been overwhelming. Friday night is an evening I will cherish forever.”
Looking ahead, Mayer and Ryan are scheduled to clash for the WBO welterweight world title in Las Vegas on March 30, a fight Price plans to attend.
“I’m planning to be there,” the Welsh boxer confirmed. “It’s another fantastic matchup. I’m targeting the winner; I want that fight.”
Price is eager to pursue an undisputed title fight before the year concludes.
“From the beginning, I’ve maintained that I’m willing to fight anyone, anywhere. Naturally, fighting in Wales would be incredible,” Price emphasized.
She reiterated, “I never decline a challenge. I’m ready for anything. My performance on Friday demonstrated that I belong among the elite.”
Price believes she can elevate her game even further from her showing against Jonas. “I anticipated a tougher contest. I really enjoyed myself in the ring,” she admitted.
“In boxing, you never stop evolving. I know there’s much more potential within me.”
Mikaela Mayer vs Sandy Ryan is scheduled to be broadcast live on Sky Sports on March 30.
