In a thrilling Champions Trophy semifinal, New Zealand defeated South Africa by 50 runs, thanks to brilliant centuries from Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson. The high-scoring match saw New Zealand post a formidable total, which South Africa fell short of, despite a valiant effort.
After being sent in to bat, New Zealand’s innings was anchored by Ravindra’s magnificent 108 off 101 balls and Williamson’s elegant 102 off 94 deliveries. Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips provided explosive finishes, propelling New Zealand to a record-breaking 362/6.
South Africa, in response, fought hard but ultimately could only manage 312/9. David Miller’s unbeaten century (100* off 67 balls) was a highlight, along with half-centuries from Rassie van der Dussen (69) and Temba Bavuma (56). However, disciplined bowling from New Zealand, particularly the spin quartet led by Mitchell Santner (3/43), stifled the Proteas’ chase.
New Zealand will now face India in the Champions Trophy final in Dubai. This semifinal marked the conclusion of Champions Trophy matches held in Pakistan.
South Africa’s chase began poorly with the early loss of Ryan Rickelton. Bavuma and van der Dussen then stabilized the innings with a century partnership. However, Santner’s crucial three-wicket spell dismantled South Africa’s momentum, ensuring New Zealand’s victory and passage to the final.
