Wimbledon 2022 finalist Nick Kyrgios has spoken about the tough time in his career following his early exit from the Indian Wells Masters tournament. In the first round, the Australian player retired due to injury at 6-7(7), 0-3 against Dutch player Botic van de Zandschulp.
“I had an amazing season, I was knocking on the door of a Grand Slam victory, and then you get pulled back,” Kyrgios said at a press conference. “My ranking is literally gone, I was out for a year and a half, and now I’m trying to come back. It’s hard for me not to think about how well I was playing back then.”
In the second round of the Indian Wells Masters, Botic van de Zandschulp will face seventh-ranked Novak Djokovic.
