Prithvi Shaw’s career in Indian cricket is at a crossroads. Once compared to Sachin Tendulkar, the 25-year-old batsman has faced setbacks after a promising start in Test, ODI, and T20I formats. His recent exclusion from IPL 2025 and Mumbai’s domestic squads highlights his struggles. Shashank Singh, who has played with Shaw, suggests lifestyle adjustments could be key to his comeback.
Shashank mentioned Shaw as a potential top opener for India, alongside Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
When questioned about Shaw’s difficulties, Shashank shared his insights from knowing Shaw since childhood and playing club cricket with him in Mumbai. He believes Shaw’s approach to certain aspects might be hindering him.
“Prithvi Shaw is underrated. If he revisits his foundational cricketing principles, he is capable of achieving great things. Knowing him since he was 13, from our club cricket days in Bombay, I feel he has a unique perspective on things,” Shashank stated on the Shubhankar Mishra podcast.
Shashank proposed simple yet impactful changes: “Perhaps, modifying his work habits, like sleeping by 10 PM instead of 11 PM, and refining his diet could make a difference.”
He emphasized that adopting these changes would greatly benefit Indian cricket.
However, Shashank acknowledged that Shaw likely has access to better advice already.
“Maybe he is already implementing changes. He doesn’t need my advice; he probably receives guidance from many more experienced individuals,” Shashank noted.
Recently, Shaw captained the ‘Route Mobile’ team in the DY Patil T20 2025 tournament.
Despite setting a base price of Rs 75 lakh for the IPL 2025 mega auction, Shaw received no bids.
In contrast, Shashank Singh’s career is on an upward trajectory. He had a successful IPL 2025 season with Punjab Kings, scoring 354 runs with a strike rate near 165.
Consequently, Punjab Kings retained Shashank as their first player for Rs 5.5 crore ahead of the mega auction.
Shashank’s rise in prominence led him to become the ninth most searched athlete on Google in 2024, being one of only two Indians in the top 10, alongside Hardik Pandya.
In IPL 2025, Shashank will play under Shreyas Iyer for Punjab Kings, as the team aims for their first title.
