Following India’s Champions Trophy 2025 victory in Dubai, Congress leader Shama Mohamed extended her congratulations to the Rohit Sharma-led team. This comes shortly after she publicly criticised Rohit’s fitness and leadership, remarks that drew considerable backlash. India secured a four-wicket win against New Zealand in the final, successfully chasing a target of 251 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Shama Mohamed quickly took to social media to praise Rohit and the team’s achievement. She lauded Captain Rohit Sharma for his impressive 76 runs, which set the foundation for India’s victory, and acknowledged the crucial innings played by Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul.

Previously, Shama Mohamed had criticised Rohit Sharma’s fitness during the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final stage, suggesting he was overweight for an athlete. She had also labelled him an ‘unimpressive captain’ in another social media post. These posts have since been removed.

In the final, Rohit Sharma led from the front, scoring a rapid 76 and dismissing concerns about his fitness and retirement. He aggressively tackled the New Zealand bowlers in the initial overs.

India, the top-ranked ODI team globally, remained undefeated throughout the Champions Trophy tournament held in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

Rohit Sharma expressed gratitude for the crowd’s support, noting they made it feel like a home ground despite being away. He praised the team’s consistent bowling performance and KL Rahul’s solid composure under pressure, highlighting his ability to finish games. He also commended Chakravarthy’s unique bowling style, which proved effective on the pitch.

Virat Kohli acknowledged the team’s strong comeback after a challenging tour of Australia and praised the young players for their positive impact. He highlighted the significant contributions of Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul, noting the team is in capable hands for the future.
