Following controversial remarks made by former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi concerning the Indian Army, Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has issued a strong condemnation. Afridi`s comments came just days after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 resulted in significant casualties and intensified tensions between India and Pakistan. Afridi, a seasoned cricket veteran, had reportedly mocked the Indian Army and the media`s coverage regarding the Pahalgam incident.

Earlier, Afridi had publicly questioned the Indian Army`s effectiveness, labelling them `nalayak, nikamma` (inefficient, worthless) for failing to prevent the Pahalgam attack, despite their substantial presence in Kashmir. He also took aim at the Indian media, accusing them of sensationalizing the event like `Bollywood` almost immediately after it occurred, expressing a mix of surprise and apparent amusement at their reaction.
In the aftermath of the attack and the rising tensions, the Indian government has implemented several non-military measures. These include putting the Indus Water Treaty on hold indefinitely, closing the Attari border crossing, and revoking the visas of Pakistani nationals currently in India. While some observers have not ruled out the possibility of military action, this specific course was reportedly not discussed at a recent all-party meeting convened to deliberate India`s response to Pakistan.
