The excitement surrounding India’s victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy remains high, with Shreyas Iyer, a key middle-order batsman, admitting that he is struggling to find words to express the feeling of winning a major ICC 50-over tournament. India secured the 2025 Champions Trophy title by defeating New Zealand in the final on Sunday by four wickets, marking their third title win and establishing them as the most successful team in the tournament’s history.
“It’s truly amazing, I’m honestly lost for words. It’s an incredible feeling. I’m really happy that I was able to contribute to the team in every possible way and in every match. Even in the field, making those important run-outs and taking catches. The feeling is just indescribable, I can’t put it into words,” Iyer stated in a video shared by the Indian cricket team on their Instagram on Wednesday.
Iyer emerged as India’s leading scorer in the tournament, accumulating 243 runs in five matches. This included consecutive half-centuries against Pakistan and New Zealand during the group stage. He also played a crucial innings of 48 runs in the final and was instrumental in India’s successful navigation of the spin conditions on Dubai’s slow pitches.
“When you realize you’ve scored the most runs for the team, there’s no greater feeling. It feels surreal. Although, I do feel I could have finished the game in the final.
“But, you know, ultimately, every player aims to see the team through to the end. I would accept this outcome any day, and I’m extremely pleased with how every player contributed to the team’s victory,” he added.
Iyer was also named in the Champions Trophy’s Team of the Tournament, alongside fellow Indians Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, and Varun Chakaravarthy. “Winning my first ICC trophy is an incredible feeling overall. This is my fifth title this year, and I am genuinely grateful and blessed,” he concluded.
