Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav conveyed his best wishes to the Men in Blue as they prepare for the ICC Champions Trophy final against New Zealand. He also praised skipper Rohit Sharma for his fitness and significant contributions to Indian cricket leadership in recent years. Sharma’s captaincy notably includes leading India to the finals of all major ICC tournaments during his tenure.

India is set to face New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy final on March 9th at the Dubai International Stadium. Both teams enter the final in strong form, with India remaining undefeated throughout the tournament and New Zealand demonstrating formidable performance with both bat and ball under Mitchell Santner’s captaincy. This upcoming match is highly anticipated as a thrilling rematch of the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy final, where New Zealand emerged victorious. Team India will be aiming to reverse previous defeats against the Blackcaps, notably in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup semifinal and the 2021 ICC World Test Championship final.

In an exclusive statement to ANI, Suryakumar Yadav stated, ‘India has been performing exceptionally well. If they maintain this level of play, the final will simply be another game to conquer. My best wishes are with every player, from the first to the fifteenth, and the entire support staff for a successful final.’

Addressing recent criticism and online trolling regarding Rohit Sharma’s fitness, particularly comments from Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed, who in a deleted social media post described him as ‘fat’ and ‘India’s most unimpressive captain,’ Suryakumar Yadav emphasized Sharma’s achievement of leading India to four ICC tournament finals: the ICC World Test Championship final 2023, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final, the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, and the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

‘Leading the team to four ICC finals is a remarkable achievement for the nation. Sustained performance over 15-20 years is truly significant. Having closely observed his dedication in both franchise and international cricket, I can attest to his hard work and top-tier status. I extend my best wishes to him for the final,’ Suryakumar added.

Suryakumar’s last ODI appearance under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy was during the 2023 World Cup final against Australia in Ahmedabad. Under Sharma’s leadership, India also secured the T20 World Cup 2024 title. Furthermore, Rohit Sharma has a successful IPL record, having won multiple titles with Mumbai Indians (MI), with Suryakumar playing a vital role in the franchise’s triumphs.
