Indian cricket star Virat Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record during a Champions Trophy 2025 match against Australia in Dubai on Tuesday. Kohli demonstrated composure against the Australian bowlers and scored a determined half-century. With this innings, he now holds the record for the most 50-plus scores in ICC ODI tournaments (24), moving past Tendulkar’s previous record of 23. India’s captain Rohit Sharma is currently third with 18, followed by Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara with 17. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting is fifth on the list with 16 scores of 50 or more.

Kohli also exceeded Shikhar Dhawan’s record of 701 runs in 10 Champions Trophy games from 2013 to 2017. Sourav Ganguly is the third-highest Indian scorer in the tournament, with 665 runs in 13 matches from 1998 to 2004.

The 36-year-old reached this milestone while India was chasing a target of 265 runs. Kohli achieved this feat in his 17th Champions Trophy match for India.

In the current tournament, Kohli had already scored a century against Pakistan in Dubai and continued his form into the knockout stage with this well-played innings, following the early dismissals of openers Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma.

In the match, Australian captain Steve Smith was the top scorer for his team with 73 runs, and Alex Carey contributed 61 before India bowled out the ODI world champions for 264 in 49.3 overs.

For India, Mohammed Shami took three wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja and Varun Chakravarthy each claimed two wickets.
