Everyone knows Virat Kohli looks up to Sachin Tendulkar, it`s no secret. Over the years, numerous stories have circulated on social media about young Virat`s ambition to become the next Sachin. Kohli himself has recounted tales of idolizing the `Master Blaster` during his formative years and aspiring to emulate him. When Kohli surpassed Tendulkar`s record with his 50th ODI century, he showed deep respect to the `God of Cricket` by bowing to him in the stadium, dedicating his performance.
According to Kohli`s school teacher, Vibha Sachdev, who witnessed him make those early declarations about becoming like Sachin Tendulkar, the conviction was evident in his eyes even from a very young age.
“His eyes were very expressive,” Vibha Sachdev told Cricadium. “Virat was highly engaged in all school activities, enthusiastically participating in inter-house competitions. The recurring line was always, `Ma`am, I will be the next Sachin Tendulkar of the Indian Team.` Honestly, at that time, the sheer determination and confidence in that young boy`s wide eyes would sometimes make us smile.”
The teacher also shared that Virat wasn`t just proficient in sports but also performed well academically. However, the demands of cricket practice eventually made it difficult for him to allocate equal focus to his studies.
“Virat consistently scored well in his exams; he was an above-average student,” she added. “The only time he`d lose marks was when his practice schedule ate into his study time. We`d often hear him say, `I had to prepare for my exam late after returning from practice.` He worked incredibly hard to excel in both fields. The teachers at Vishal Bharti Public School, Paschim Vihar, understood his challenge completely and supported him by providing additional guidance.”
