India`s Test team faces significant decisions regarding batting positions following the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from the format. “KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal performed well as openers in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” Jaffer added. “There`s no need to alter something that`s working effectively. Sai Sudharsan has shown promise and deserves an extended run at No. 3.”
B Sai Sudharsan, Gill`s teammate at Gujarat Titans, is emerging as a widely supported inclusion for the England tour. His composure has impressed selectors, even beyond his IPL runs.
However, the exact batting order for Jaiswal, Rahul, Sudharsan, and Gill remains to be seen.
The No. 4 position isn`t solely contested by Gill and Rahul. Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, and Shreyas Iyer are also vying for the spot, and consistent form could secure their place in the Test XI.
Nevertheless, Gill appears to be the frontrunner for the role.
Despite a Test average of 35 over 32 matches, Gill is frequently described as the next prominent stylish right-handed batsman, following the legacy of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.
