Former Indian fast bowler Sreesanth has called on fans and analysts to stop speculating about the potential retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Despite recent criticism following the Test series against Australia, Sreesanth believes both batting stars have much to offer. Following India’s victory against Australia in the Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal, Sreesanth expressed his strong desire to see Sharma and Kohli compete in the 2028 Olympics and secure a gold medal for India. With cricket included in the Los Angeles Olympics, Sreesanth has encouraged the BCCI to support their continued play, emphasizing their potential to win Olympic gold.
Sreesanth stated to India Today that discussions about Virat and Rohit’s retirement should cease, advocating for their continued participation. He believes their presence as Olympians, winning a gold medal, would be an unparalleled achievement for the nation.
Sreesanth also highlighted the Indian team’s formidable form and confidence as they head into the Champions Trophy final. He believes no team can challenge their current dominance.
The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, defeated Australia by four wickets in the semifinal, marking their fourth consecutive victory in the tournament and securing their place in the final.
They now await the winner of the New Zealand versus South Africa match for the final showdown.
Sreesanth confidently stated that regardless of the opponent in the final, India is poised to win. He praised the team’s positive energy and exceptional cricket, specifically acknowledging Virat Kohli’s anchoring role in chases and Shreyas Iyer’s impactful performances. However, he also stressed the importance of humility, recalling advice from former captains MS Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly about staying grounded and trusting the process, which he believes the Indian team is currently embodying.
