India captain Rohit Sharma is admired for his leadership on the cricket field, known for bringing out the best in his team, especially young players. However, his passionate approach can sometimes lead to intense moments. During a Champions Trophy semi-final against Australia, Rohit’s frustration with Kuldeep Yadav’s fielding effort was clearly visible and became a viral moment on social media.
Following India’s Champions Trophy victory against New Zealand, Rohit addressed his captaincy style, particularly those instances where he appears to scold teammates on the field.
“We have a very strong team, and it’s a pleasure to play with such dedicated players. Everyone understands their role. Of course, emotions are high during the game. Sometimes I get carried away, but it’s all part of the game,” Rohit explained in an interview.
“The words spoken on the field are not intended to offend or impress anyone – they are simply expressions of our passion. Ultimately, our main objective is to win, and we are committed to doing whatever it takes to achieve that,” he added.
In the final match, Rohit also faced an unusual streak of luck, losing his 12th consecutive coin toss in ODIs, matching Brian Lara’s record. Despite this, the captain expressed pride that his team secured the trophy even after losing all five tosses in the tournament.
“We remained undefeated despite losing all five tosses. And we still won the trophy. Across the five games we played, we didn’t lose once. Winning a tournament without a single loss is a significant accomplishment, and it gives me great satisfaction,” Rohit stated.
“Honestly, until we won the trophy, it wasn’t something we were really focused on. But after the victory, it struck us – we went through the entire tournament undefeated. That realization made it even more special. It’s hard to describe how that feels right now,” he concluded.
